School Version

11. Fairy rulers closeup

If Oberon and Titania are to be read as schoolteacher fairies in this version, perhaps their carrying primary school satchels on their backs might suggest that they carry the weight of their own childhood experience with them, as we do. It is equally possible to argue that, at some moments, Deguchi finds it convenient to foreground the Teacher and at others the-person-behind-the-social-mask involved in more personal role-play situations.

Compare this moment to the Mask version (Mask 7. Titania & Oberon). Wings and Masks are both visual reminders of constructedness, whether in dream or waking reality.
