If Oberon and
Titania are to be read as schoolteacher fairies in this
version, perhaps their carrying primary school satchels on
their backs might suggest that they carry the weight of
their own childhood experience with them, as we do. It is
equally possible to argue that, at some moments, Deguchi
finds it convenient to foreground the Teacher and at others
the-person-behind-the-social-mask involved in more personal
role-play situations.
