Lysander's shame
Lysander's shame at
Hermia's reproach carries him to yet another extreme. The
spotlight on Titania sleeping upstage appears to be a
reminder that the actions of the lovers and Titania and
Bottom are interchangeably part of the 'angelic' and dark
sides of (human) nature.
In this version,
Titania's sleeping presence is distanced, whereas, in the
Bar (Bar 24.
Puck's potion) and Mask versions, it is
foregrounded.
