Pyramus kisses Thisbe
Behind Pyramus and
Thisbe stands Wall, signified by 'the chink' in the fingers
of his left hand and the 'flat' pose. Note that through this
chink, Bottom could spy Titania on the other side of the
circle, as we can. Their pretence speaks truer than the
actors know.
The confused
actions across stage increasingly make the circle 'muddy'
and hard to 'read'.
