Lysander, Demetrius kiss
Deguchi employs the
comic gag of having Demetrius and Lysander compete in
kissing up Helena's arms until, when Helena suddenly
wrenches her arms away, they kiss each other.
The action raises
two laughs from the audience (lines 3.2.151,154) at Helena's
disoriented assumption that Demetrius and Lysander must be
gay.
The Bar version
(Bar 35.
Boys drop pants) is, as we might expect of a night club,
much more grotesque in its 'stripper' routines.
The Mask version
(Mask 26.
Demetrius overacts) is more theatrically stylised, playing big
in an intimate space in a way that must stun the audience as
much as it does Helena.
