33. Lysander, Demetrius kiss

Deguchi employs the comic gag of having Demetrius and Lysander compete in kissing up Helena's arms until, when Helena suddenly wrenches her arms away, they kiss each other.

The action raises two laughs from the audience (lines 3.2.151,154) at Helena's disoriented assumption that Demetrius and Lysander must be gay.

The Bar version (Bar 35. Boys drop pants) is, as we might expect of a night club, much more grotesque in its 'stripper' routines.

The Mask version (Mask 26. Demetrius overacts) is more theatrically stylised, playing big in an intimate space in a way that must stun the audience as much as it does Helena.
